Neighborhoods/Kirkland/North Rose Hill

Kirkland neighborhood guide

North Rose Hill

North Rose Hill has several distinct green-space destinations, including Forbes Lake and North Rose Hill Woodlands Park. Those names are useful starting points, but the practical details matter. In particular, the familiar Castle Playground is undergoing a staged replacement process, so current access differs from older photographs and descriptions.

North Rose Hill and South Rose Hill are separate official neighborhoods with a shared Rose Hill planning chapter. This guide covers the northern neighborhood, not Redmond’s separate Rose Hill area.

Choose the park that fits the outing

The shared Rose Hill plan identifies Forbes Lake Park, North Rose Hill Woodlands Park and Mark Twain Park in North Rose Hill. These are separate destinations. Select the one you intend to use and check its public entrance rather than treating all the green areas shown on a neighborhood map as an interchangeable network.

Castle Park has a current caveat

North Rose Hill Woodlands Park is at 9930 124th Avenue NE. The city says portions of the wooden castle playground were fenced off in February 2026, while the playground remained open. Replacement is planned for 2027. As checked October 22, 2026, the replacement is a future project, not a newly completed amenity.

There is more than the castle

The Woodlands Park page also identifies a second playground on the east side, a wetland boardwalk, restoration areas and picnic spots. Street parking is limited. During your visit, look at the actual route between the home and the part of the park you would use; arriving at one edge does not tell the whole story.

Do not turn future connections into shortcuts

The Rose Hill plan includes proposed trail and access improvements, including the Bay to Valley connection. Treat that as planning context. For a current home decision, follow the routes that are actually open and publicly accessible. A dotted line or policy objective should not become an assumed shortcut in your daily travel plan.

A useful showing-day comparison

Pair the showing with a park visit and an errand of your own choosing. Note the street crossing, entrance and return trip at each stop. At the home, compare usable outdoor area and storage separately from nearby recreation. This approach gives you specific evidence about the address without relying on a broad claim that the whole neighborhood is equally walkable.

132nd Avenue leads to a college campus

Lake Washington Institute of Technology lists its Kirkland campus at 11605 132nd Avenue NE. For someone considering study or work there, this is a specific destination to test from a North Rose Hill home.

Take the guide outside.

Walk the routes you would use, visit at different times and compare the details at each property. A neighborhood overview cannot replace seeing the actual home.

  • Try your own routes at the times you travel.
  • Check parking, street conditions and access at the property.
  • Verify school assignment with the district for the exact address.
  • Separate the area’s amenities from access offered by the home.

Before you shortlist.

Does this guide define an official boundary?

No. Neighborhood names and official planning areas may differ. Use the cited sources and the specific parcel when a boundary matters.

Can I use the guide to confirm a school assignment?

No. Check the property address directly with the relevant district. Proximity to a campus is not a guarantee of enrollment.

Where can I discuss homes in this area?

Contact Ryan with your area, timeline and priorities. This local preview does not display live property inventory.
